How can I submit an application for a lease or financing agreement?

After receiving your quotation, you will get access to the online customer application portal.

  1. Register and log in.
  2. Select the correct quotation/application.
  3. Complete your details step by step.
  4. Check everything carefully and finalize the application.

When does the validity of my quotation expire?

After receiving your quotation, the following deadlines apply:

  • Within 30 days, you start your application in the customer application portal.
  • Within 30 days after starting, you complete the application.
  • After approval, you receive the agreement; you sign it within 14 days.

Please note: if a deadline expires, you may need to request a new quotation.

I want to enter into a lease or financing agreement and I have a partner. Does my partner also need to sign the agreement?

If you are married or have a registered partnership and enter into the lease or financing agreement, your partner will in principle co-sign as a co-contracting party. This also applies if your partner’s income is not needed for the application.

I want to enter into a lease or financing agreement and would like to do this together with my parents. Is that possible?

No. You must be independently able to enter into the lease or financing agreement. It is therefore not possible for your parents to co-sign as guarantor or co-contracting party.

On what basis is it assessed whether I can enter into a lease or financing agreement?

A lease or financing agreement entails financial obligations for a longer period. We therefore assess your financial situation as carefully as possible. Among other things, we look at:

  • Your income and fixed expenses;
  • Your financial obligations;
  • Your household situation;
  • Your BKR registrations (BKR check).

This also applies to your partner, if applicable.

I have income as a self-employed person or entrepreneur. Am I eligible for a lease or financing agreement?

Yes, you may be eligible. This also applies if you have been active as a self-employed person or entrepreneur for less than three years. Depending on your situation, we may ask you to provide additional information and documents (for example about your income and business).

During the application process I must give permission for the BKR check. Why is that?

BKR registers credit details and any special circumstances, such as payment arrears. To determine whether providing a lease or financing agreement is responsible, we check your application with BKR.

We need your permission for this. Without permission, we cannot consult the BKR information and cannot assess your application.

Do you have financial obligations that are not registered with BKR? Please state these in the application form (for example a private loan or payment arrangement).

I have income from renting out real estate. Can I use this income for a lease or financing agreement?

In some situations, rental income can be included as a source of income. During the application process, we may ask you to provide additional details and documents. Whether and how this income counts depends on your personal situation.

Why do I have to provide my bank statements during the application process?

We assess your financial situation as carefully as possible. Bank statements give us insight into, among other things:

  • Whether the stated salary is actually being deposited;
  • Your housing costs;
  • Recurring financial obligations.

Please note:

  • Are you entering into the agreement privately? Then select a private account.
  • Are you not using the automatic process via DigiD and Ockto? Download a PDF for one full month from your banking environment and upload it in the application portal.

I have other income in addition to my pension income. Will this be included in my application?

Yes. If you have additional income, add it in the application form via “Add income”. We will include this in the assessment of your application.

I have multiple sources of income. Will they all be included in the assessment of my application?

If you have multiple sources of income that form a substantial part of your financial situation, please enter them all in the application portal. You can add additional income via “Add income”. If a source of income is not listed, choose “Yes” when asked whether you have any other income.

I can choose an automatic application via DigiD and Ockto. Is that safe?

Yes. With DigiD and Ockto, you can securely retrieve and share data from various government sources and financial institutions. This helps you complete your application faster and more easily.

  • You give permission per source via DigiD;
  • Your data is sent encrypted via a secure connection;
  • You only share the data needed for your application;
  • Ockto deletes the retrieved data after completion of the session (see also the question about retention periods).

Why do I need to install an Ockto browser extension for the automatic process? Is that safe?

The Ockto browser extension is needed to securely retrieve your data from the official data sources and from your bank. After successful submission, the session is closed and you can remove the extension. The extension is available for Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Chrome.

Do you not want to install an extension, or does your computer not allow it? Then you can complete the process on your mobile phone using the Ockto app. You can also choose the manual process and upload your documents in the application portal.

I have submitted my data via Ockto. Why do I still need to provide a payslip?

Via Ockto, we retrieve various income details from MijnUWV and MijnOverheid. Your payslip contains your most up-to-date details and the specification of the composition of your salary. By using both, we can assess your income more accurately.

Why do I also need to provide documents when I have shared my data via Ockto?

Via Ockto, we retrieve data about your household situation, living situation, income and expenses. In some situations, this information is not sufficient. That is why we sometimes ask for additional documents to verify your personal situation. In the application portal, we explain as clearly as possible why each document is needed.

My bank says that I grant permission for 180 days to retrieve my transaction statements. Is that correct?

Your bank may indicate that you give permission to share transaction statements for 180 days. This is related to European regulations (PSD2).

We do not make unlimited use of this: after your consent, we retrieve your transaction statements once. This concerns transactions from no more than the past 3 months.

Why do you want to retrieve my personal data from various data sources and directly from my bank?

Because we want to carefully assess and verify your financial and household situation. With Ockto, we can retrieve data securely, quickly and reliably from the sources where it is already available. This means you have to collect less information yourself and we can often process your application more quickly.

What data do you retrieve from MijnOverheid?

Via MijnOverheid, personal data from the Personal Records Database (BRP) and relevant information about your living and household situation can be confirmed. This enables us to verify your situation without requiring you to provide additional documents.

Why do you retrieve my data from MijnPensioenOverzicht.nl?

Via MijnPensioenOverzicht (MPO), we can confirm whether you are accruing pension or already receiving a pension benefit. Depending on your situation, this is important for determining the maximum monthly payment. If you have not yet retired, we take pension accrual into account; if you have retired, we take your benefit into account.

Why do you retrieve my data from DUO?

Via DUO, we can see whether there is a student debt and what the repayment obligation is. This is important for determining the maximum monthly payment. By using Ockto, you usually do not need to provide additional information for this.

Why do you retrieve my data from UWV?

Via UWV, we retrieve information about your income and employment relationship(s). Data from the insurance report provides insight into, among other things, your employment history (up to five years back), current wage and benefit details and the type of employment relationship. This helps us assess whether your income is sufficient and stable for a lease or financing agreement.

Why do you retrieve my data from RDW?

Via RDW, we verify your driving licence details and can gain insight into your vehicle ownership. This can influence the calculation of the maximum monthly payment. By using Ockto, you usually do not need to provide additional information for this.

I want to complete the automatic process via Ockto, but I receive a message that it failed or an error message. What can I do?

For retrieving source data and bank transaction statements, we depend on several systems. Sometimes a service (such as MijnOverheid or RDW) may be temporarily unavailable, causing an attempt to fail. Our advice:

  • Try again later (often it works on the second attempt);
  • Still not working? Choose the manual process and upload your documents in the application portal.

If the problem persists, please contact our New Business department. We are available on working days from 08:15 to 17:45 on telephone number (070) 41 47 556. We will be happy to help you.

How can I retrieve my data using DigiD?

If you choose the automatic application process, you use Ockto. With Ockto, you share your data quickly and securely. For extra security, you confirm your permission per source with DigiD.

Please note: if you use a mobile phone or tablet, you will be asked to install the Ockto app. The app will guide you through the process. If you use a computer or laptop, you will be asked to install the Ockto browser extension.

I do not want to share my data via Ockto. How can I securely share my personal information?

You can also provide your data manually via the customer application portal. Log in, complete the application form and then upload the requested documents.

Tip: with the government’s KopieID app, you can securely scan your identity document or driving licence and shield details (such as the BSN) before sharing it.

How long does Ockto retain my data?

Ockto does not retain your data permanently, but at most temporarily. In practice, the following situations apply, among others:

  • If you successfully complete the Ockto process and submit your application, the retrieved data is deleted immediately after completion of the session.
  • If you close the Ockto app or browser in the meantime and thereby interrupt the process, your data is deleted immediately.
  • If you complete the Ockto process but have not yet submitted your application, your data may be retained for a limited period (for example 7 days). The exact retention period may vary by situation.

When will I receive an email from BMW Financial Services during the application process?

You will only receive an email when a new message is available for you in the customer application portal. You then always log in to the application portal yourself.

During the application process, we do not ask you to click a link in an email to log in. If in doubt, always go directly to the customer application portal.

I need to provide a copy of my driving licence and identity document. Is that required?

We understand that providing a copy of your driving licence or identity document may feel sensitive, because it also contains your photo and BSN. You can use the government’s KopieID app to scan your document and shield details (such as the BSN). Then upload the copy via the customer application portal.

I would like to apply via Ockto, but I do not see this option in the application portal. Why is that?

It may happen that a government or other source is temporarily unavailable. In that case, the option to complete the application process via Ockto may be temporarily disabled.

Usually this is resolved quickly. Please try again later or choose the manual process.

Why is there a difference of 10 to 60 minutes in the duration of the application process?

The stated times are indications of the average time you need to provide your data.

  • Automatic (Ockto): usually within 10 minutes.
  • Manual: often up to around 60 minutes, because you need to collect, download and upload documents in the application portal.
